In Strathspey at this time, a local drive should produce Black Grouse at the lek. We will also seek Ptarmigan, Snow Bunting, Ring Ouzel, Raven, Red-throated Diver, Goldeneye, Peregrine, Crested Tit, Scottish Crossbill, Slavonian Grebe, Whooper Swan and many breeding waders.

In private estate woodlands we have chances of Capercaillie, and we will search for raptors including perhaps the first returning Osprey. A moorland drive may give views of Black-throated Diver on lochs.

A major feature will be our time on Mull. We target iconic wildlife at sites we know well, looking for White-tailed Eagle and Golden Eagle, found here at their highest densities in the UK. Moorland species include Hen Harrier and Short-eared Owl, and off the shoreline, we aim to find Otter, plus Great Northern Diver.

Finally, we enjoy a great day birding along the Moray Coast, which can easily include rafts of Eider, Goosander, Common and Velvet Scoters, Long-tailed Duck, Great Northern and Red-throated Divers, Glaucous and Iceland Gull. Waders include Purple Sandpiper, Turnstone, Bar-tailed Godwit, Knot, Dunlin and Ringed Plover.
