Freebird ED Binoculars

Last issue, we reviewed the Visionary Freebird ED 8x42 binoculars, from Optical Hardware, and it’s fair to say that we were very impressed. Now you can win a pair, worth £310, in this great competition.

The Freebird ED 8×42s are rubber armoured, and fully multicoated optics with high definition BAK4, Naturephase™ and dielectric coated prisms. ED (extra low dispersion) glass minimises chromatic aberration, improving edge definition and contrast.

There are multi-stage alloy twist eyecups, and ultra-smooth movement on the large metal focus wheel. Waterproof and nitrogen filled, they have integrated objective lens covers, rear rain guard and comfortable neoprene lanyard.

Our verdict was that “there are plenty of good contenders in the sub-£500 price bracket, but there are a few things that make these stand out. The excellent build quality, a very fine all-round image and that very close focus make them a great option, not only for beginners wanting to upgrade, but for any birder wanting another pair of bins as back-up and for all-round nature watching. And, at only just more than £300, the value is pretty amazing.”
