Bird lovers and nature enthusiasts can look forward to a brand-new event at this year’s Kendal Mountain Festival, celebrating the joy of birdwatching and the growing interest in birds and wildlife across the UK.
‘Get Birding’ brings together expert ornithologists, passionate birders, artists, photographers and members of the team behind the Get Birding podcast for an afternoon of live conversation, film and art. The session will explore what makes birding so rewarding, while sharing stories, experiences and inspiration from some of the fascinating people working across the world of birds and wildlife.

The event will be hosted by wildlife campaigner, author and RSPB ambassador Lucy Lapwing, alongside biologist, broadcaster and filmmaker Dan O’Neill.
The line-up includes award-winning wildlife artist John Threlfall, whose work celebrates the diversity of birds and wildlife. An experienced tutor, John runs wildlife drawing courses and has worked with major wildlife organisations including the RSPB, Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust and World Wildlife Fund.

Also appearing is Alice Boyd, a South London-based musician, sound artist and audio producer whose work encourages people to listen more closely to the natural world. Her projects combine field recordings, voice, composition and interviews to explore our relationship with the landscapes around us.
Whether you’re a seasoned birder or simply curious to find out more, ‘Get Birding’ offers an entertaining and inspiring afternoon celebrating birds, nature and the people who are helping to bring birdwatching to a new generation.
‘Get Birding’ is part of the Kendal Mountain Festival wildlife programme.
