David Chandler, with a bit of help, reviews some hats and footwear…

SUNDAY AFTERNOONS

Ultra Adventure Hat, £44.95

This American brand has been making hats for over 25 years. Here’s one from their extensive range. sundayafternoons.co.uk

Their “iconic adventure hat”. An 88mm, down-sloping brim provides excellent sun protection at the front and sides, a 15cm neck cape protects at the rear. Very lightweight and, with its folding brim, very packable. An adjustable chinstrap does a good job keeping it on in the wind, the crown is ventilated and there’s a wicking sweatband and slots above the brim to hold sunglasses. In two sizes with cinch-in adjustment. On the downside – the cape blows around in the wind and why put reflective wedges on a sunhat? For waterproof, try the Ultra Adventure Storm. For more conventional wide brim protection check out the ‘Latitude’.

Main fabric bluesign certified. UPF 50+. S/M or L/XL in moonstone, cinder/gray, eucalyptus or horizon. 73.7g. Lifetime guarantee.
