White Stork landfill threat

White Storks are giving up their migratory life due to a love of junk food, according to researchers from the University of East Anglia.

A report published in March has confirmed that thousands of White Storks now reside in Spain and Portugal every year instead of making the trip to Africa, spending their time instead scavenging from landfill sites. Lead researcher Dr Aldino Franco claims that the White Stork population has grown by over a thousand percent since 1980, sparking worried that EU directives aimed at closing landfill sites could have a detrimental effect on the species survival.
