Maidstone Local RSPB Group AGM, followed by Rolf Williams – The RSPB’s work in North Kent. Rolf, who is the Communications Officer for the RSPB in Kent will provide us with an update of how the RSPB is addressing the many issues facing birds and wildlife in our area. With potential house-building threatening nationally important nightingale habitat at Chattenden and the continuing debate about “Boris Island” for the hub airport, which would destroy large swathes of the north Kent marshes, there has never been a more important time for the RSPB’s campaigning efforts – and for us to support them. Indoor meetings are held at The Grove Green Community Hall, Penhurst Close, Grove Green, Maidstone, Kent ME14 5BT (next to Tesco) starting at 7.30pm £3.50 members, £4.50 non-members

Maidstone Local RSPB Group Glen Duggan - Rare and Extinct Birds. 12% (about 1,200) of all existing bird species are at risk of becoming extinct in the next 100 years. 182 species are currently listed as ‘critical' – this means these species have only a 50/50 chance of surviving the next 10 years. A further 321 are ‘Endangered', 680 are Vulnerable and 727 are Near Threatened. Glenn’s presentation looks at these issues and at some of the bird species that have become extinct since records began. http://www.birdlectures.com/ Indoor meetings are held at The Grove Green Community Hall, Penhurst Close, Grove Green, Maidstone, Kent ME14 5BT (next to Tesco) starting at 7.30pm £3.50 members, £4.50 non-members
