Birding events in the North West

RSPB Macclesfield Local Group Indoor Meeting. ‘IDENTITY CRISIS’ by Jim Almond. This will be Jim’s third visit to our group. Alias ‘The Shropshire Birder’ he has a lifelong passion for nature and photography and for his county, where, on his year list he aims to see at least 160 species, with as many as possible photographed. Many birds fall into the ‘is it or isn’t it’ category and this talk looks at those that can be easily misidentified or mixed up with similar species – black or bar-tailed godwits, common or spotted redshank, whimbrel or curlew, willow warbler or chiffchaff, artic or common tern, common or jack snipe, common/spotted/green /wood sandpiper etc. Linking his motto of ‘never birding without my camera’ together with his extensive knowledge and fieldcraft, this should prove to be a ‘not to miss’ session for birder’s of all levels. Indoor meetings are held on the second Tuesday of the month from September to May at Macclesfield Methodist Church, Westminster Street, Macclesfield SK10 1BX. (PLEASE NOTE NEW VENUE – Free parking in Whalley Hayes Car Park opposite). Doors open at 7.15 pm for a prompt 7.45 pm start. ALL WELCOME. Entry fee: Group members £1, Visitors £3.50, under 18 Free. Sales stalls offering a range of RSPB goods and the opportunity to purchase high quality bird food. For details of all events and local bird records visit www.macclesfieldrspb.org.uk.
