A Russian skydiver captured on video the moment his parachute crashed into a pair of Himalayan Griffon Vultures. The 24-year-old Vladimir Tsar'kov from Moscow was gliding in the Himalayan foothills when the birds dramatically joined him, rushing into view, before one became deeply entangled in his ropes, having crashed into his canvas.
After attempting to free the vulture, he was forced to deploy his back-up parachute, then performed a controlled crash landing into trees, before releasing the bird, which apparently escaped unharmed. Judging from the translations of what Mr Tsar’kov said on the video with respect to the bird, the vulture got a very lucky escape…
Widely reported as being a collision with ‘eagles’ the footage clearly shows the black and white plumage of the Himalayan Griffon Vulture, the largest of the Gyps vultures in the Indian subcontinent.
