The 2012 Scottish Birdwatchers’ Conference takes place at the Corran Halls, Oban, on Saturday, March 17, with Birds (and other wildlife) of the West Coast the theme for this year’s event.
The conference showcases leading scientific research on some of Scotland’s most iconic wildlife and internationally recognised habitats – the Isles and mainland of the beautiful west coast.
For further information and booking enquiries, please contact Anne Cotton at BTO Scotland by emailing anne.cotton@bto.organne.cotton@bto.org Please book your place before February 26 to avoid disappointment.
There’s also a Wetland Bird Survey Guided Walk, led by the BTO, at Loch Laich (18 miles north of Oban) on Sunday, March 18 from 9am to noon. Participants are asked to meet at the big layby (grid ref: NM 930 493) on the A828 north of Portnacroish and opposite Shuna Island, where there is plenty of room to park.
This easy-going birding walk along the shores and tidal marshes of Loch Laich should see and record plenty of wetland birds, and is a great opportunity to learn about gull, wader and duck identification as well as the Wetland Bird Survey (WeBS).
The walk will end up at the cafe/shop at Castle Stalker View, taking in the superb panorama over Lismore, the small islands and Loch Linnhe. There’ll be the option to discuss the morning’s birding over lunch in the café.
The walk is free but booking is essential. For more information, or to book a place, please contact Anne Cotton at BTO Scotland by emailing anne.cotton@bto.org Directions and further details will be sent on booking.
Further information about the Conference and the walk can be found here.
