Satellite tagging aims to help the Turtle Dove

Six Turtle Doves are being satellite tracked from the UK to Africa to help scientists understand their dramatic decline. Last year the RSPB was able for the first time to reveal the complete migration route of a Turtle Dove named Titan.

Unfortunately, Titan’s signal was lost this year as the bird flew through Mali. Recognising that there was a limit to the amount of data that one bird could provide, this year six Turtle Doves have been fitted with satellite tags, and it is hoped that the birds will provide vital information about the threats the Turtle Dove faces on its five and a half thousand kilometre journey.
